Over the last two ŵeeks we have been using ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ as our Talk for Writing text. So far we have created character maps for all of the main characters,  taken on the roles of the different characters using masks, ordered the story and created a class story map to enable us to retell the story.

Today we decided that we would like to make our own apple pie, just like Little Red Riding Hood’s mum. We all had a go at cutting the apples and butter, mixing the ingredients for the pastry and pinching the sides of the pastry to create the top of the pie. We then put it in the oven and all took a lovely piece of warm apple pie home with us!

Let’s go fly a kite…

Yesterday it was very windy so the Early Years staff tied a piece of material between the outdoor shelters so that the children could explore how the weather impacts our environment. In Nursery, we then talked about different things that fly in the wind and decided that we would like to make and fly our very own kites!

This morning, we sang the Mary Poppins song ‘Let’s go fly a kite’ and each created a kite using coloured paper, ribbon, string and a straw to hold it together. We all decorated our kite using crayons and then attached the string and ribbons, making great use of our fine and gross motor skills. Before we went home, we went up on to the school field to test our kites out! Some of use even did our own experiments to work out which way to run to make our kites fly higher. We all had so much fun!
