A visitor in Year!

To end our science week, Mr Challiner came to talk to us all about mining. It was fascinating to learn about how diamonds were mined and how mines work.

We were also given the opportunity to ask questions about a miners work and about how rocks were formed.

Mr Challiner then set us a challenge to draw one of machines that was used in the mines of the Queens crown which houses the famous Cullinan Diamond.

Runners up were Zack Coates and Olivia Holt.

The winners were Joe Dale and Lucas Archer.

Thank you very much Mr Challiner for taking the time to come and talk to us.

Another great STEM Club

This week, the children in STEM Club became engineers! They had a challenge to see how tall they could make a structure using only dried spaghetti and marshmallows. We had great fun working out how to make our structures stronger and decided that Mia’s structure was the best!

Thumbs up Thursday

Class 2 had a fantastic time working with their Mums, Dads, brothers and Nans on their first CREST Award challenge this morning. They were testing materials to see which one kept the mouse warm! We had a fantastic time. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came in and joinedthe fun!

A cracking start to our CREST Awards

Class 2 have started their quest to achieving their very own CREST Award. They have completed 4 challenges today and have 4 to go! Today’s challenges included making bubbles of different sizes, shape and colour, washing dirty laundry and fixing a broken umbrella using waterproof material. They can’t wait to see what Cosmic, Gem and Aunt Stella want them to investigate next!

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a drone! Drones Workshop

Wow what a fantastic day Year 6 (as well as some superstars from Year 5) have had!

We had a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) themed day where the children became engineers to code and program the drones to complete 3 challenges. Because the children all behaved so well, they were given an air show challenge , where they were able to do code their drones to do various flips and turns.

Days like today really show how much resilience our children have as they kept on trying and learnt from their mistakes.

Class 2 at MOSI

Class 2 have had a great time at The Museum of Science and Industry today. We took part in lots of Science investigations, learnt about robots and discovered aircraft, old and new! We were SUPER excited when we saw a Red Arrow, as we have been learning about these in our topic!! Well done boys and girls, you made Marlfields very proud!!

Super Science Week

Wow, what a way to start Science Week! Mrs Abraham introduced STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) through some exciting investigations. We found out all about the fabulous activities and challenges that will be taking place over the week. We will be having a Celebration Assembly on Friday at 2.30pm where members of each class will explain what they have taken part in and learnt over the week. Please come and join us in assembly on Friday, to find out what we have all done!

Day 2 – such fun!

We started with instant frozen yoghurt and writing explanations then bottle shaking, followed by giant tooth paste. Tomorrow Forest School then a slime day on Thursday!

Look at the fun we are having!   We all enjoyed eating the delicious frozen treat at play time.

Even the bowls froze!  We can shake it!

Our Clonter Opera performance

We had a super day at Clonter Opera making costumes for characters in the design workshop and then performing our Space adventure on the stage. We had to compose the music and songs we used as well as having sound, lighting and stage engineers. A great time was had by all and a big thank you to all the people at Clonter Opera who helped us to give a brilliant performance.
