This week in Reception – w/b 25.2.19

This week Reception class had a mystery visitor in our new role play area.  I wonder who it could be?

The children decided it must have been The Big Bad Wolf.  The children came up with a plan that we must try and catch the wolf.  The children made ‘Wanted’ posters to try and catch the wolf and in the outdoor area they made traps to try and catch the wolf.

The children then wrote about how they made their traps and what they had used.

We have also done some work about measuring.  The children used cubes to measure different objects.

This morning we had a drama workshop about volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis. We played games, created freeze frames and moulded our partners into statues. We learnt about extinct volcanoes (these haven’t erupted in 10,000 years); how earthquakes happened and are made and also about the terrible volcanoe eruption at Pompeii.

Telling the time

In class 2 we have been working really hard telling the time. Mrs Radcliffe had a big clock and we had a small one each. We looked at o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Mrs Radcliffe tried to trick us but we were too clever. We are going to keep practising telling the time.

Toys in Space

Our class text this half-term has been ‘Toys in Space’. Lots of strange things have happened, including toys landing on the school field and a mysterious shadow appearing on our window?! Later this week, we will be writing our very own versions of the story.

Year 2 Maths

This afternoon in year 2 we have been working hard with shape activities. We have learnt lots about symmetry and recapped the names of 2D and 3D shapes. Mrs Radcliffe and Mrs Daley set up a range of activities for us to do. We had lots of fun and learnt lots too!

Reception celebrating Chinese New Year

This week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year.

We started the week by having a Chinese Restaurant in our role play area.

On Monday we made Chinese Dragons using our paper folding skills.

On Tuesday we heard about the story of The Chinese Zodiac.  This year it is Year of The Pig.

On Wednesday we wrote our own fortune cookie wishes.

On Friday we made vegetable stir fry with noodles.  We even had a go at using chopsticks to eat them with.
