Well that is it… our time in Year One has come to an end! We have had such a lovely last day!
Just a quick message from me. I just want to say how much I have enjoyed teaching your children this year and watching them grow and progress across the year. It has been an absolute pleasure and I will miss every one of them!

This week has been ‘Forest School Week’. The aim of the week was to introduce all of the school to different aspects of the forest school style of learning and to raise money to develop of forest area. We also took the opportunity to complete some house team based activities.
On Monday, the whole school split off into their house teams in the afternoon. They took part in 4 different activities across the course of the afternoon. Each team worked on a carousel of activities, one completing a natural activity in the woods, one decorating stones, one creating their team flag for sports day and one classroom activity about the animal they sponsor in their house teams.
The children were also set other challenges across the week. These included; creating a nature shoe box, den building, a themed ‘Thumbs Up Thursday’ which included creating natural photo frames and a natural scavenger hunt in some classes.

Our key focus this week in math is weight. We started by comparing the weight of different objects, making predictions and also weighing different items using balancing scales.
We then began to measure the weight of items using cubes, before comparing the measurements with blocks.
Yesterday, Year One took on the role of news reporters. We began by watching Prince William and Princess Kate’s exit from the hospital, as well as the visit by the Royal couple’s other children. We then discussed the setting and scene from what we had scene, generating a list of useful words and facts. All of us wrote our own version of events.
We also predicted baby names for the new prince and watched the salute to mark the prince’s birth live in the afternoon!
This week in Year One, we have been focusing on measurement. We have been using various resources to measure and compare length and height. We have also been measuring outside! We used metre sticks to measure a 10m track and then timed each other running the track.
Yesterday, we spent the afternoon exploring our new topic which is all about animals. We discussed pets that we had and created bar charts to reflect pets in Year One. Those of us with pets completed a descriptive piece of writing about them. We also discussed what we would like to learn in the new topic and what we already know about animals. Some of us also had a go at sorting animals into groups.
Last Friday, we held our Staff vs Pupils football matches, all in aid of Sport Relief. We had a fantastic turnout of players (both pupils and staff) and amazing support from pupil and parents.
We managed to raise just over £420!! Thank you so much for everyone’s support, it was a very enjoyable evening for staff and pupils alike (as well as lots of sore teachers over the weekend!)
In our Science lesson yesterday, we learnt about a few different types of trees. We then went to see if we could find any of the trees in the school grounds, by matching the leaves to our key.

Last week was Science Week! We all loved it – we had so much fun and learnt a lot! We completed various Science tasks and activities to earn our ‘Crest Award’. We were all super scientists!

There are also in school competitions and break/lunch time competitions going on all week. We are going to revel who has completed the most miles and challenges on Friday!
