Alice in Wonderland

On Tuesday we participated in a drama workshop based on Alice in Wonderland. After warming up, we worked in three groups to create freeze frames about three scenes from the story. Group 1 worked on the part of the story that was in the kitchen where Alice was sneezing because she was allergic to the pepper. The Mad Hatter’s tea party was re-enacted by Group 2, where there was a peculiar range of guests. Finally, group 3 performed the scene from the Queen of Hearts’ garden where she instructed the cards to paint the roses.

On Wednesday, the children were then given the opportunity to respond to the workshop in any way they wished. Some children wrote character descriptions, invitations, menus or diaries. Arthur wrote the events of the tea party from the point of view of the tea pot. Elliott C’s response is exceptionally imaginative and takes quite a lot of thought to read it.

Year 6 Science

As part of our Living Things unit, Year 6 have been looking at microorganisms. This week our scientific questions was: Is yeast a living thing? We looked at the processes that living things do using the mnemonic MRS GREN. The children then completed a Science investigation to answer the question.

First they added yeast to warm water. The yeast then needed nutrition which was in the form of sugar. Attaching the balloon to the top of the bottle would show whether yeast respires and/or excretes if it inflated.

The children determined that yeast was in fact a living thing.

Anti-bullying in Year 6

The children have worked hard this week on anti-bullying and after a few live lessons in class the children have taken inspiration to create a graffiti wall. Spreading the message of how we can ‘Reach Out’ each child has left their mark on the wall and hope that the rest of the school will be able to look at it and the message from Year 6 will be passed on.
