Making curry

Last week our focus country was Bangladesh. Throughout the week, the children had the opportunity to make their own curry. They each contributed to chopping the vegetables and adding them to a saucepan. Some of the children then went to the kitchen with an adult to cook the curry….some even helped with the washing up!

Water challenge…

To encourage everyone to drink more water in this hot weather, we’ve set up our own water challenge! Each time we finish our bottle, we get a sticker and the winner at the end of the day gets 5 dojos for being the champion. Yesterday’s winner was… Lincoln!

Enjoying our new ‘Italian Restaurant’ role play area

We have been taking on the roles of chefs, customers and waiters/waitresses in our Italian Restaurant. We also made our own pizza oven and have been cooking our own pizzas! In our malleable area, we had playdough with different herbs in to make pizza bases out of and decorated them to look like real pizzas. Miss Carter asked if we wanted to have a new area to play in this week, but we all told her we didn’t want it to change yet because we are having so much fun developing our role play in there!

A musical afternoon…

This afternoon, some of Nursery created their own band! They could only find one microphone so they improvised and used other props instead…. One of the children even made their own representation of a guitar. They treated the rest of us to an amazing rendition of our top secret graduation song, followed by a special performance of ‘Let it go’ by some of the girls.

Making Mozzarella Pizza

This morning in Nursery, we all made our very own pizza slices! Firstly, we all got the chance to smell and feel mozzarella… some of us weren’t too sure about it but still enjoyed it on our pizza. We had to spread tomato puree on the base and then select our favourite toppings to add to them. We then put the pizza in the oven and took them home in our pre-designed pizza boxes! It was so much fun!

Nursery learning to speak and sing in Italian

This morning we were very lucky to have a visit from one of our parents who taught us all how to speak and sing in Italian. We learnt how to sing ring-a-ring-o-roses in Italian and also a new song we had not heard before. We were all then given the opportunity to ask how to say certain words, say please and thank you, ask for certain fruit and snack and how to count to ten.

We really appreciate any time given by our parents to help us all learn new things… Thank you so much for a wonderful morning of learning Italian!

Making spaghetti bolognese

As part of our focus on Italy, the children asked to make bolognese. We discussed the ingredients we would need and then each had a go at chopping them before adding them to a pan. We used quorn, onions, peppers, herbs and tomato. All of the children had a go at mixing the ingredients, then we all went to the kitchen to put the bolognese on the hob. We talked about cooker safety and why we needed to stand away from the cooker and let a grown-up cook.

For snack, we then ate our amazing creation! All of the children tried the bolognese and some even asked for seconds!🍝

Making tomato soup…

We had lots of tomatoes left over today, so to save them from being wasted we discussed what we could make with them. The children decided they would like to make tomato soup. They chopped the tomatoes and added them to the pan, before cooking and tasting their creation!

International Dough Disco Day

This morning we celebrated ‘International Dough Disco Day’. We invited all of our parents in for a Physical Development themed morning and completed various fine motor skill activities with play dough to support our writing skills. We then participated in the live dough disco session, with all of the children showing their parents what we do in our daily sessions.

Thanks all for a great turnout again, we hope that you will be able to try some of the things out at home! Please see Miss Barber or Miss Carter for playdough recipes if you would like them.
