Making the Leaning Tower of Pisa… Using pasta!

Our new topic is ‘All Around the World’ and for the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on Italy, at the request of the children. They have come up with some fantastic ideas about what they would like to do and learn about… Watch this space to see what we get up to!

This morning, they asked to make ‘The Leaning Tower of Pisa’. We looked at photographs and discussed the tower itself and Italy, then made our own representations using pasta.

Healthy Eating

Last week we talked about healthy eating. We discussed foods that you should eat a lot of and foods which should just be treats. We sorted different foods and drinks into groups and Miss Carter also showed us how many tablespoons of sugar is in a can of coke! We were very good at explaining why certain foods belonged in the healthy or treat groups and some of the children even talked about how unhealthy foods effect your body and teeth.

Nursery Rules

We have been talking about our ‘Golden Rules’ this week and have made some new ones to refresh our memories about how to behave and what we should and shouldn’t do in Nursery. All of the children contributed to the new rules and we all put our fingerprints on to the rules to say that we agreed to follow them.

Nursery’s obstacle course

This morning we went up on to the field and split up into 2 teams. Both groups gave their team a name and then competed against each other to complete an obstacle course. They had to star jump, run round cones, jump over hurdles, step over a ladder, crawl through tunnels and under a net!

The wind was so strong that it blew the tunnels down the field and we all chased after them!

Thumbs up Thursday

This morning, we put our Learning Journeys out for parents to browse through during our weekly ‘Thumbs up Thursday’ time. Some of the children then asked if they could look at them too, they all

then looked through their own book and enjoyed talking about the pictures with their friends.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

When we came back inside from play time today, something strange had happened! There was fruit in a line down the middle of Nursery and all of the pieces had big bites missing out of them! The children decided that they needed to investigate, so they followed the trail to work out who or what it could be. It didn’t take long for us to work out that it was The Very Hungry Caterpillar !
