Year 4 – Art

The children have continued on their art of being architects. After studying details of St Paul’s Cathedral and completing work on the architect, Christopher Wren, then children worked on their own unique design using the skills and techniques of oil pastels.

The children began by practicing their blending and shading skills then recreating their own St Paul’s Cathedral. We then used our fingers to blend the colours used to create textures and subtle changes to their building designs.

Year 4 – Geography

Today Year 4 continued to read our class reader about Miranda the Explorer who has become lost in Europe. Following clues left around the classroom the children have had to work out where Miranda has landed.

Scanning the QR codes which had been hidden around the class the children then had to work out which country in Europe that they lead to.

After examining the evidence which included the population, capital city, major rivers, different biomes, flag, etc the children were able to work out she had crashed in Russia.

Music

We are learning the song Look Into the Night. We have learnt the song and now we are playing glockenspiels along to it. The song is an example of K pop.

Cooking club

Today we made chocolate chip shortbread. We mixed butter and sugar until it was creamy, then we added flour and choc chips. We put it in the tin and cooked it for 15 mins. It looked delicious!

Learning about Planets

This afternoon in science we learnt about the distance of planets from the sun. Each child had a planet written on a card with a scaled down distance. We went outside and used trundle sticks and metrerulers to work out each planet’s distance from the sun.

Coronation Tea Party in Foundation Stage

Today the children have celebrated the coronation of King Charles III with an afternoon tea party. The children have been planning the party for the last couple of weeks; writing lists, writing invitations, writing recipes for cakes, making cakes and biscuits.

The children came to school this morning dressed in red, white and blue clothes.

Then this morning the children set to making the sandwiches, jelly, fruit salad and decorating the classroom ready for our party visitors!

Then it was time to celebrate….the children had invited their parents to come along to their party. We started with a Coronation Scavenger Hunt in our outdoor area.

Then we all enjoyed our afternoon tea.

The children finished by enjoying their special Crown Cake they made for the King!

Year 4 – Conductors and Insulators

Today Year 4 have continued their scientific enquiry into insulators and conductor.
We have gathered a number of items from around the school and tested them using circuits to see if they can complete the circuit and conduct electricity or if they insulate the electricity.

The children then tested the different items to see if their bulb would light. Some items gave the children a little shock when they found that part of them would conduct and parts would insulate. We came to the conclusion that metals make the best conductors.
