When Year 2 had their story time before lunch, Reyah and Pippa asked if they could be the ones to deliver the story, they did a fantastic job! Their reading was lovely and fluent even when it came to trickier words – well done girls, excellent reading!

What a team!
Tonight our Year 3 and 4 boys took part in the football competition at CHS! There was some fabulous team work and D saved lots of goals. B and R both scored in the matches catching the opposing goal keepers by surprise. Thanks to all the Y3/4 boys who trained together with Coach Dan and Mr Rowe.
Year 4 – Design and Technology
Following on from our own research done at home the children have begun to start the steps to success in making their own coin purses and wallets.
This week we began by identifying how materials are able to stay together and using sewing how the different types of stitches work.
We first learnt the ways in which we can thread the wool through the eye of the needle (without constantly stabbing ourselves). We then moved onto the different types of stitches we knew including: running stitch, cross stitch and back stitch.
Next, it was time to practice ourselves and we all began to create a running stitch in straight(ish) lines. We then moved onto how cross stitch can be used for decorative purposes. Finally, we looked at how backstitch can help strengthen and create more solid lines.
The children all worked wonderfully and tried their hardest ready to design and decorate in the next upcoming weeks.
Early Years World Book Day
The children in Early Years came into school dressed as their favourite book characters. We started our day by sharing our costumes with each other and talking about their favourite books.
The grown ups even joined in with the dressing up fun. The children had to look at each character and work out which story we were all from….it was Little Red Riding Hood.
Our day was based around the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
In the afternoon, we went on a woodland trail just like Little Red Riding Hood went through the woods to visit Grandma. We had to use our gross motor skills to negotiate the different spaces and obstacles.
Early Years Dance!
This week as part of our World Book Day celebrations the children in Early Years took part in a dance workshop based around the story of The Enormous Crocodile. The children used dance movements to retell the key parts of the story.
Happy Birthday Amelia
Amira has been learning the piano in school and learnt how to play Happy Birthday for Amelia’s birthday.
Battlebots
Elliott C built a horizontal spinner battlebot at home. It even had a motorised weapon. He battled with his brother and sister however Pippa, his sister won most of the battles with her drill battlebot. He is an engineer in the making.
Alice in Wonderland
On Tuesday we participated in a drama workshop based on Alice in Wonderland. After warming up, we worked in three groups to create freeze frames about three scenes from the story. Group 1 worked on the part of the story that was in the kitchen where Alice was sneezing because she was allergic to the pepper. The Mad Hatter’s tea party was re-enacted by Group 2, where there was a peculiar range of guests. Finally, group 3 performed the scene from the Queen of Hearts’ garden where she instructed the cards to paint the roses.
On Wednesday, the children were then given the opportunity to respond to the workshop in any way they wished. Some children wrote character descriptions, invitations, menus or diaries. Arthur wrote the events of the tea party from the point of view of the tea pot. Elliott C’s response is exceptionally imaginative and takes quite a lot of thought to read it.
Year 3 – Alice in Wonderland
A dancer from the West End came to teach us all about how we can dance out our favourite books. We looked at the story of Alice in Wonderland and we put together a dance to re-enact the story.
Kickboxing star
This week Jenson achieved his yellow belt in Protea Kickboxing. Well done Jenson!
Year 4 – World Book Day Week
WOW! What a week we have had in Year 4.
We have started our new story in class, began a new class read, had a guest dancer in school and celebrated World Book Day.
We have started our new story in class ‘The Nightmare Man’ which we will be focusing our writing on for the next few weeks. We have also began a new book in class to read, retrieve, understand new vocabulary and dig deeper into the meaning behind of the books.
As a special treat we had a dander from the West End come and join us to help celebrate World Book Day early. After recapping the story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll we then focused on three key scenes. The kitchen scene, the tea party and the rose garden. Groups started by holding a freeze frame from their scenes and then performing a 30 second action from their scene. We then got back together to perform the story of Alice following the white rabbit, falling through the rabbit hole and landing in the world of wonderland. We then moved back to our scenes and joined them together to retell the story.
World Book Day – The children were given the opportunity to dress up as their favourite character for the day where we celebrated our love of reading to all.
