Clonter Opera Visit

Today we had a visit from Rachel and Sally from Clonter. We talked about Shakespeare and some of his plays. We drew how we imagined the stage would look for different plays and then worked in a group to make a 3d version. When it was finished we thought about how we would light our stage and used torches to show how different lights changed the look of our stage.

Year 6

During today’s assembly Year 6 pupils shared some of their learning about World War 2.
They had a super box of WW2 artefacts which Miss Jackson had loaned from the IWM in Salford. Along side this we saw gas masks pupils had made at home and heard about personal history stories from our pupils’ families. The pupils spoke with empathy about the experiences of all those who’d lived during WW2. Children from other year groups listened with great interest and asked our young historians questions- keen to find out more!
Well done Year 6, thank you for sharing.

Exploring Forest and Woodland Habitats

This afternoon Class 2 explored the school forest looking for evidence of living things. We were super lucky to spot a squirrel running straight to the top of a tall tree as we entered the forest. We also spotted bird feathers, our badger set, small slugs, insects and on the way to the forest several mole hills.
We discussed food chains and the children found several fallen leaves that had been nibbled at, the children thought this was probably caterpillars eating them- for energy!
After our science work we collected several leaves and seeds which will become part of our special art project … watch our blog tomorrow!

Fossil Detectives

In Class 2 we have been exploring some of the ways we learn about the past. Our history lessons have taken us back millions of years. This week we found out about the life of Mary Anning, a fossil hunter – palaeontologist!
We recreated fossil formation with a loaf of bread and jelly sweets…. Take a look! Can you guess what the mysterious creatures are?
